The Hypocrisy of Ted Haggard
Written by Neal J. Davis
Directed by Mike Dempsey
Executive Producers C Johnson & C Lago
Associate Producer William Tunstill
Would you sacrifice everything to expose the hypocrisy of a man
who influenced millions of believers?
Naked
Before God is the riveting true story of Mike Jones by Mike
Jones, the man who revealed the truth about Ted Haggard’s
secret life. Ted
Haggard - minister, leader of the National Association of
Evangelicals (and its thirty million followers), friend to
politicians and the White House.
And a |
|
three-year client of Mike Jones, a gay
masseur
who guaranteed satisfaction.
Jones lays bare the facts of their relationship and
events leading to his fateful disclosure.
When is it right to betray a confidence?
When does the right to know outweigh the right to
privacy? And is
telling the truth worth giving up everything you’ve worked
for?
Told
with frank honesty and humor, Naked
Before God is a fascinating and powerful night of theater! |

Mike
Jones
When I was offered this chance to bring my story to the stage, it gave me an opportunity to present my
story verbally from within; my voice and my emotions. While many see this as a simple story it really is not,
and that is what has been missing from the headlines. Sure you have homosexual sex, infidelity, religion,
drugs, politics, money and power. But you also have human nature, vulnerabilities and denial accompanied by guilt. When you ask people about the Haggard story you get the usual responses, homosexuality, religion
and hypocrisy. But they rarely bring up my struggles and what I went through by stepping out of the box to
speak up against the powerful for what I thought was for the greater good for everyone, not just the gay community. This is a David and Goliath tale and I hope people will open up to it and look at me from a
different prospective. I may not be a seasoned actor, but this is my life. |

Michael
Dempsey - Director
How
hard is it to perform a one-person show? Very. And Mike has
proven that he was more than willing to take that very scary
risk and expose himself and his story for all to see. What
helped Mike through the rehearsal process was just how easy it
was for him to connect with Neal Davis’ wonderfully written
script. Not only does Mike speak the truth about his life and
situation, but Neal’s intelligent writing was able to give
Mike Jones’s voice emotion, love, fear, sadness and a lot of
humor.
A lot of very funny and touching stories are told in this
70 minute piece.

J. Davis - Playwright
I’m fortunate
and thrilled to work with Mike Jones in telling his experience
in the most honest, vulnerable way possible – in front of a
live audience. Regardless
of what one thinks of the morality or politics of his exposing
Ted Haggard, we can’t help but ask ourselves privately, what
would I have done? Mike’s
willingness to bare his soul on the stage is remarkably brave,
and I am proud to be a part of bringing his story to you! |
